I have seen Pat Hartman's solution for this and would work well except what
happens when something is not in List and we need to add it?? any help would
be greatly appreciated

I guess I didn't make it clear, I have a notinlist procedure that works well,
however according to Pat's work he is placing a text box over the combo box
to show the value of the combo box on a continous subform. If I have a text
box over it, I can not add to it. Was wondering if there is a work around.

Pat is a she. I'll "ping" her about your post so that she might be able to
reply.

Strange, if you use pat's method you should be able to edit the combo box
field.
Unless you have hide the combo's field completely leaving only the combo
button, you will not be able to edit your selection.

I did a test to confirm and i was able to edit and insert new data.
There wasn't any problem.

So in other words they would have to click on the drop down arrow first, if
data is not in there the should start typing the new data in?

Yes, select existing data then edit.
