But the question remains: can HP recuperate from such a blow? La Fiorina paid
19 billion $ for Compaq. Lenovo paid, what was it, 1.25 billion for IBM's PC
division? So how much is Compaq really worth today? 5 billion $ ? What's left
of the HP spirit to climb the steep slope ahead?

Still, no question here, the bitch will receive a 21 million $ severance package:

«Hewlett-Packard says Fiorina's severance package is worth about $21 million.
Fiorina will receive 2.5 times her annual salary and bonus, or about $8.5
million. She'll also get to keep restricted shares worth about $7.6 million
based on Wednesday's closing price of $21.53. And she keeps stock options
Hewlett-Packard values at about $5 million.»

Makes me sick!

Here's part of an ABC article that sums up the situation petty well, IMHO:

(...) observers say, HP lost more than expenses and thousands of employees
during the process. Fiorina erased the employee-focused culture once known as
the "HP way," focused single-mindedly on quarterly profits, and alienated
employees. That, business experts say, ultimately may be her lasting legacy.

"This was a company that was the essential model of innovation, a great model
of leadership style. Everyone used this as a model for the integrity of the
engineers," said Jeffrey Sonnenfeld, associate dean of the Yale School of
Management. "No CEO uses HP as a model for anything now."

Fiorina is best known for orchestrating the Compaq acquisition a $19 billion
deal that required her and Compaq boss Michael Capellas to spend months wooing
reluctant executives and shareholders.

"No matter how anyone feels about what in fact was the misguided acquisition
of Compaq, this has been a disaster for the image, reputation and performance
of this firm," Sonnenfeld said. "All it did was get bigger and dumber, instead
of smaller, leaner and more profitable."

The fiercest resistance came from HP director Walter Hewlett, son of an HP
co-founder. Hewlett argued that the deal would dilute profits from its printer
unit while the company absorbed Compaq's low-margin PC business. Employees
also soured on the deal, which led to the elimination of thousands of
employees per quarter for more than a year.

Although Hewlett toned down his vitriol after the acquisition, he remains
concerned that Fiorina's rule erased the employee-focused, decentralized
culture that his dad, Bill Hewlett, and David Packard painstakingly created.

With a $21 million 'please go away' package, I doubt Carly is all that
upset.

With the egotistical manner and control freakery that she demonstrated
that then became pervasive through HP, my guess is that she is pretty
upset. I suspect that the ego and power was more important to her than
the money. Anyway, in the HP office where I work, I saw little men and
women jumping around singing "Hey-Ho the witch is dead..."

Good f*cking riddance

Was just returning from long trip when I heard this on the news Wed
evening. Spoke to my son that evening and he said same thing about
the dancing and singing.

Hope the news was a happy surprise for Bob Headrick as well.

Last night son said he had heard there was talk about trying to get
Walter Hewlett back on board.

For all that have a financial stake in the Co, including myself, hope
they find a replacement that knows and respects the "HP Way" and gets
the Co back to where it belongs.

Think I'll sing a couple verses of the wicked witch song.

EXCELLENT news. Carly was a disaster for employee morale. Hopefully now
HP employees can concentrate on innovation.
