Have a Sony FS790 Centrino Laptop with Windows XP Pro as the OS. Trying to
capture video from my JVC GR-DVP7u camcorder. For some reason DV gate nor
Windows Media does not detect the camcorder. I can't figure that out. Does
anybody know how to guide me and solve my problem. Thnk you.

Camcorder connected to notebook with a firewire cable?

Camcorder turned on, powered by A/C and in VCR mode?

Thank you for responding. The answer for your questions is yes. camcorder is
connected to notebook by an IEEE 1394 cable. The camcorder is turned on and
powred by A/C and in play mode. How ever i faild to inform you that when I
turn on the Camcorder the notbook does give a beep. That's about it.

After the 'beep'.. (which by default is the same as a connected USB device
beep)... a small panel should pop up and ask what you want to do... normally
the answer is launch Movie Maker or other third party editing software and
capture video.

After the beep, does anything 'appear' in the SysTray?

Thank you again for trying to help me. Yes at some point I got the panel
asking what I want to do. After responding that I want to capture my video
via Windows movie maker and following all the steps it gives me I ended up
with a notice that the device is not connected. Lately I don't even get that
panel. Also Nothing appears on the Systray.

See if you can borrow another firewire cable from a friend and that might
help us get further.

I did just that. I ordered an original Sony Firewire cable. As soon as it
arrives I'll try capturing, and I'll keep in touch. Than you again, I very
much appreciate your effort.
