There are a number of video clips on line that I would like to capture for
use in the classroom (I am a teacher),\. What, if any, software is available
to capture such animations? .........Thanks

Some clips can be copied with a
simple...right click/save target as.
For streaming video ...maybe the
following article will offer some ideas:

I'd like to add that I would need to capture these clips while they play. Is
this possible? Also, showing them in a classroom to stusents would not be a
copy right violation would it? This is not considered to be a commercial
project.

While running Mediaplayer just push "File" in the top left corner and then
"save as" to save it to where you want it.

Here are several short video (with audio) clips in the listing below that I
wish to capture, edit and show to students in a class on astronomy. I do not
know if it is possible to do this or if is legal for that matter (this is an
educational not a commercial application). Please advise if it feasable and
what software do I need to capture and edit these and similar clips.

The site clearly indicates they are encrypted and protected.
There is the option to purchase and download.
But you did know that?
So, I'm assuming you want to pirate the clips?
If so, type "desktop screen capture software" into
google and you will recieve a vast list of such tools
that will capture the desktop as a video clip -
I'm not aware of any freeware tools.
