I have just watched a movie trailer, but all it's left in my Temporary
Internet files is a 2Kb file called xxxxxxx-ref.mov".

Any idea what I can use to capture the full thing to may hard drive,
else?

What I do is view source code, copy the URL, paste into browser and
then save the file. (It will start to play but you don't have to view
the entire thing if you don't want to.)

I've tried that; no joy.

The trailer is at:

<http://www.apple.com/trailers/sony/winged_migration.html>

which includes in its source the URL:

3aad2186f86b/qtstart5a_480x228.mov>

but that, too, leaves the same 2Kb file in Temp. Internet Files.

Just let it download completely and click "Save as QuickTime movie".

I just tried it and it worked for me.

That option is greyed out, for me.

Try this instead:
http://a772.g.akamai.net/5/772/51/6...c59c2299bfc70d948b6/winged_migration-sref.mov

However, I can't get the entire file to play. I think there's
something going on to block direct use of the URL.

I was wrong, it's just that the file hadn't been loaded completely. I
don't know why, but Netscape reported the page as fully loaded, and
yet Quicktime was still downloading the file, with no indication
showing. I guess it's due to being on dialup and the slowness of the
process.

As a matter of interest, what files size do you get, when you save it?
Hmm, you're right. I have less than 2KB and it appears to be only a
placeholding file for the Internet version. In such a case, I don't
know of any way to save the file. My guess is you'd need a QT player
that wasn't made by Apple, if there is such an animal. (Irfanview?)
