I am about to go crazy trying to figure out why WMM will not capture my video
from my JVC DV. The computer and program both recognize my dv connected by
firewire, but at the end of the capture it tells me "The specified video
device is not responding. Verify that the device is connected properly,
turned on, and try to capture again. Please help. I am sure it is some
small thing that I have overlooked...

The DV camera has to be set to Playback.
DV cameras have diff settings, the one for
recording is not same as for playback and
thus capture via firewire.
I'm not familiar with JVC DV cams, nor
have you supplied details of your model, so
we can't look it up online.
But as an example:
Sony DV cams have option of "Camera" or "Rec" for filming.
This has to be switched to "VCR" or "Play" to enable capture
via firewire...............

I have it set to play and not to manual or auto record. My model number is
GR-D33U. There must be something else I am doing wrong. The computer does
recognize my camera and I can control the playback from WMM... It just will
not capture for me without error. I have also trying any other program I had
with the same result.

I have a similar JVC miniDV. Your problem sounds familliar and I think
I had the same problem. I could control the camera through MM2 but not
capture any video. As I recall, the order that you connect the cable
to the camera and PC is critical. You have to connect the firewire
cable to the computer FIRST, connect the cable to the camera, then turn
the camera on to play. This is all I had to do to make my camera work.
There is a mention of this in the camera manual which is how I figured
it out.

Hope this helps.
