Is there a freeware program that allows me to capture my cassete tapes onto
my computer and then convert it to mp3?

Hi,

It's pretty simple.
To perform the recording you need the following:

1. Cassete Player with Audio Out / Headphone Jack
2. PC with Audio In jack
3. Media Jukebox

steps:

1. Connect your player Audio Out Jack to the Audio In jack on your PC.
You can obtain a cable with jack pins on both the ends or can make one
(I did the other one)

2. Open Media Jukebox application and enable recording via Line In
mode. I cannot secify the steps here and I don't have MJuke box
installed on this PC.

3. Play the Cassete and click on the Rec. button on the MJukebox
application when you want the recording to start.

That's it you have a clean clear Digital version of your Music on
Cassete.

Hope this helps,

Connect cassette player to computer line input.
Launch CDex (Tools > Record from Analog Input)
Make sure Recording setting is on WAVE
(Control Panel > Sound and Audio Devices > Audio > Sound Recording > Volume
Check Wave)
URL for CDex is CDex http://cdexos.sourceforge.net/
