is very poor, it has lines all through the video. Has anyone experienced the
same problem many thanks.

This sort of device has no onboard chipset/encoding, it just
connects the analog outputs to the PC via a very basic USB
convertor.
You are totally reliant on your PC for all processing,
Analog video capture is a CPU/RAM intensive chore.
You need to have a very Hi-Spec PC for this task.
You also need to ensure your PC has USB2 ports
and an efficient FSB etc etc.
Your description of the capture results indicate this
to be the case, you will also probably note that there
is also serious audio/visual sync issues..............
Audio is relatively easy to capture, analog video is
very tricky - resulting in "frame drop", result being
the audio is out of sunc with the video.
Basically, your PC is finding it too demanding.

thankyou for your help. I have just bought a compaq presario sr1639uk which
does have usb2 ports but I am going to check all the other tech you mention.
thanks

I have the same device and have not had any problems. My pc is Win XP, 512
ram, 3.0 Ghz intell processor. I was very dissappointed with the software
that came with it. It is very limited and will cost $$$ to activate the extra
pieces. Are you using the RCA jacks for the video or the Svideo connector?

I am using the RCA jacks and a analog camcorder. I have windows xp,athlon 64
processor and over a thousand ram.I am very new to this computor,I also am
very disappointed with the soft ware.

Oh dear...........
here is one of many reviews of your specific PC, though rated as value for
price,
This is the sum of this review:
"Good value AMD desktop, as long as you're not a demanding user"

And this from the body of this UK mag's review:
"but try and force feed it heavy video-editing duties and it'll slow down to
a snail's pace."
(The full review is only available within the mag, basically it is not upto
the task
that you require of it.)

This is Compaq's spec sheet for that model, intriquingly it fails to detail
the
Front side bus speed (FSB: cache1 and cache2). Normally an efficient FSB
would be cause for an OEM to boast, I suspect they omit it as it is probably
a poor FSB?

I suspect your model has a bottomline FSB, this being the usual culprit
with this type of problem. Details:
MoBo and FSB:

You require a "hardwarePVR" device to be able to capture
without glitches - these devices have their own on-board
processor/ram etc etc and are dedicated to the task and
place no stress on your PC.
This is just one example, available from a mainstrean UK
online dealer, which I suspect is also the supplier of your PC?

There are similar devices from the likes of Pinnacle
cannopus, miglia, etc.

Thankyou for your help. I have browsed the suggested websites and found the
information very helpfull
