I have a sony handy cam through firewire and everything is fine except I have

My first guess would be either a bad firewire cable or card but first I
would check to make sure the inside of your computer is clean if you get a
lot of dust on the card it creates electricity that will give you a bit of a
hum. Also you don't have your speakers right next to the computer do you?
