captured material appeares to be compressed

when I capture video from my canon which I have done many times befour this
time the video appeares to be compressed and the audio is distorted the
quality appeares to be ok it is just very fast

Both of you likely have resources issues.
Try defragging the harddrive and check out this website:

Thanks for the suggestion. I solved my problem by returning the CHEAP
fire-wire PCI interface card I bought at TigerDirect.com.
I went to Circuit City and bought a name brand card.
Everything works perfectly now.

Yup that'll do it too.
Speed was definitely the issue so I assumed, incorrectly this time, that it
was the computer but a bad card or cable will certainly do the same.
