Does anyone know how to automatically download ALL the
webpages within a domain name.
Can this be done in Frontpage or is there some other
software for it?
Thanks
PH

Yes ,
Open FrontPage and go to:
File | Open Web | http:// your domain name | USER NAME | PASSWORD |

This assumes, of course, that it is a FP site and you have the user
name and password!

If not (either of the above), you can get a pretty good "working copy"
of any site by using "site reaping" utilities. This is also a good way
of "packaging" a FP site for viewing from (e.g.) a CD for someone
without easy internet access. I use Webreaper (www.webreaper.net), but
there are a fair number of other candidates.

Thanks, but it didn't seem to work
I take it this only works if the FrontPage extensions have
been installed?

With FrontPage, you can use the Import utility to do this, if you are not
the owner of the site. It works just like a browser downloading pages, but
saves the pages and folder structure of the remote site into a local web. Of
course, no matter what software you use to download a site in this way (not
publishing, but making HTTP requests for pages as a browser would), will not
be able to download ASP and other dynaimcally-generated pages, but only the
HTML that they generate.

So how would I overcome this problem? I frequently get "the wizard
was unable to create the folder". I typically import an entire site,
to enable me to develop a price quote on maintenance work. I want to
be sure that I have the site and all of its files in their entirety,
to avoid any "surprises".

Ask the client for the login information for the site.

If the site is hosted on a FP enabled server, then you can open it directly
in FP and then publish to your local machine if you want.

If the site is hosted on a non-FP enabled server, then use a FTP application
to download the site to a folder on your HD, then open this folder in FP.

Without login information, you will never be able to have access to all of
the content, just what a browser sees.
