I received a MiniDV tape that I can view from my Sony DCR-PC110 screen, but I
can not preview it through Windows Movie Maker nor Adobe Premiere. It shows
microblocks. Any suggestions? I have tried different paramenters like NTSC
and PAL or the ratio aspect, but nothing works. If I use any other MiniDV
tape, I can preview it without any problem. I am confused. Thanks for any
help!

How is the cam connected to the pc?
Once captured is that when you see the microblocks?
Was the tape recorded in LP? LP rarely plays back well on any cam other
than the one that recorded it.
It may be that you cannot see these microblocks on your small cam screen,
but you can when viewed larger, what does it look like if you pay the tape
through your cam direct to the tele.

Graham,

Thank you for your suggestions. It's connected via firewire. The output
from the cam to the TV is good. It must be the file format of the tape which
the cam can read but not the movie maker nor Primiere. To give you some more
details, the tape is from a Sony monitoring device attached to its 35mm film
camera. Unfortunately, I don't know the model of that particular equipment.
The content is full of my child's acting on one of the TV commercial videos
taken. Worse comes to worse, I will have the analog output connected to a
encoder and get that output. I am just puzzled why it does not work on movie
maker?! Do I need a better video decoder for the movie maker?

If the tv signal is fine it means the tape recording is ok.

So, if Movie Maker nor Premiere can't read it properly it means there must
be something up with the pc.

I'd start by suggesting trying a simple capture programme called windv, all
this does is catpreu dv.avi files. It can be downloaded from a link here.

Let me know how that goes.
All apps when capturing as dv.avi will use the msdv codec, so, know you
don't need a better decoder.

I have a similar problem. I downloaded the windv program but that did not
solve it. Can you help me please. I made the videos several years ago using a
JVC GR-DVF11 camera on mini-DVs using LP modes. Now I'm trying to capture
them using a SONY camera using windows movie maker. Thanks in advance for
your help.
