Capture from same computer screen

Can movie maker be used to capture from the same computer screen (or second
monitor) that Movie Maker is running on. Like Camtasia? I have browsed the
help and it seems to only talk about connecting and capturing from external
devices.

Look into Media Encoder 9(ME9) and CamStudio(CS).

Both of these capture the screen into a video file. I have used ME9, it is "ok" for
a freebie from MS. This produces WMV files, compatible with MovieMaker.

I have not used CamStudio yet, so I can't say for sure the output format of the
video files.

I have used camtasia several times over the last few weeks,a nd have been
very impressed. Unfortunately it is a 30 day trial version, and the purchase
price is $300, but it does a great job and has lots of features/options.

Have you tried CamStudio? This one costs $300 less than Camtasia Studio
