Capture From DVDs

Using a JVC DVD recorder I have transferred all of my VHS and Video 8 tapes
to DVDs and subsequently to the hard drive. Now I would like to edit the
films in Movie Maker. The files have a .C00 and .C01 extension and I cannot
find software that will read it.

Is it possible to edit these films after transferring the data to my hard
drive or should I have captured them onto the hard drive using some other
hardware and software?
