I have video that a friend has transferred from his camcorder to a DVD. He
has since sold the camcorder. All I want to do is to edit this DVD using
moving maker. From what I can tell by searching the internet is that I can
capture Video to Movie Maker if I have the camcorder. Can I capture the
video to Movie Maker straight from the DVD? I have a DVD burner, Windows XP
and plenty of RAM and Hard Drive space. Is this possible?

What you could do is attach the DVD player to a DV camcorder, record the DVD
to DV tape, then capture the tap as you would normally.

It is termed as "pass through"
You require that the DV camcorder has the option for
DV-In/DV-Out (NOT all have both options)
This involves connecting the analog in/out to the cam
and then the firewire/1394 from cam to PC, and then
use "Capture" option.
Conversely, a better option is to copy to a HD folder
the Mpeg VOB files from the DVD.
VOB files are a specific type of mpeg2, of which
WMM is not compatible with, so you will need a
conversion tool (type: "stoik imaging" in google
or "vidomi", or visit www.download.com )
Convert the VOB files to AVI and WMM will then
happily edit and produce.
