I'm having trouble with Widows Movie Maker accepting my capture device. The
device is an AVER MEDIA DVD EZMaker PRO USB2.0. It operates fine with other
applications but not with Movie Maker. Two messages come up. The first
(after selecting 'Capture Video' states, 'The Device Is Currently In Use.
Close any other application that is using the device and try again.' I then
press 'OK' and a second message comes up which states; 'The video device
cannot be used at this time because there has been an error when starting the
device.'
I think it may be as simple as selecting the capture device from a menu in
Movie Maker, but I cannot find any menu that helps me to do that. I've only
just started using XP and need some help on this one. Please assist if you
can. There will be many best wishes coming your way if you do.

The Analog Video Capture > AVer page of my website has some comments made in
older posts... all that indicate your device is capturing to an MPEG-2 file
with a USB connection... Movie Maker doesn't work with such devices.

If you can use the device and software that came with it to capture MPEG-2
files, you would then need to convert them to AVI files to use in Movie
Maker...see the Importing Source Files > Video > MPEG-2 page.

Hmmm. I tried importing the MP3 file that the neoDVDstandard4 software that
came with the Aver card, but MovieMaker gave me an error saying there were
too many ---something--- and it couldn't be imported....

Ideas?

TIA,
Owen

"too many methods to fire events from"?
That's usually an mpeg2 error but I suppose it could also be from using
MP3's
MP3 files usually work just fine in Movie Maker but occasionally I and
others here have had problems with them. Convert the MP3 to a WAV or WMA
file and all should be good again.
