Well for one thing you still should have the keyboard light telling you
it's on. Turn it off. In usenet posting in all caps is shouting and rude.

For another, I've never seen any Caps Lock indicator in the Windows
taskbar, Win2K or WinXP. In Word at the bottom of the Word window, yes,
but not in Windows taskbar. I think you're confused.

Actually, Steve, I have; but it appears to work on some systems and not
others. I used to work as a temp for a solicitor and their systems had basic
MS internet boards. I installed the latest driver (it was 5.1 then) and an
icon would appear in the systray (ahem notification area) that showed
whether the caps lock was on.

When I returned home and installed the same driver on my system (with an MS
Natural Multimedia board) it didn't work.

As an aside, that solicitor was a bit dopey. All the systems were running XP
Home which, as you know, has very limited security - she just didn't see the
need for it. Add that to the fact that she had a totally unsecured wireless
network, she worked in the middle of a large city and the hard drives
contained confidential client files - anyone running a system in the
vicinity could have tapped in and read anything; I mentioned it to her over
lunch one day and she just laughed it off. Oh well, it's her debarring...

It does show in the taskbar on some OS . Mine does show there also with the
Windows 2003 sp1 RC2 Sever install.

Stop shouting, please.

As far as I know, Windows XP does not natively show any Caps Lock
icon in the taskbar. Are you sure you didn't have some third-party
add-on?

(Personally, I hate the caps lock because I'm forever pressing it
instead of shift, and discovering it a couple of lines later. I did
a two-line registry patch to make CapsLock act like Shift; let me
know if you want it.)

Are you using a wireless keyboard and mouse combination. Try and re-install
the keyboard and mouse drivers for intellipoint v5.02

Interesting. Never seen it.

I guess so. Oh well.

I have the basic MS internet keyboard: with driver version 5.1.2600.2180
no icon indicating caps lock on. Maybe if I update the driver....but as
such I have nothing like you're asking for.
