You may have been mislead by Dell Support. I did a Google search on that model
number and came up with a lot of listings for replacement drives but none of
them listed it as a burner. The standard description was "HITACHI/LG 8X DVD/24X
CD ATAPI/IDE DVD-ROM DRIVE".
See if you can download a user's manual for your laptop from Dell. It should
clarify its capabilities/specifications for you.
| Yes, I have admin privileges. My CD drive is a Hitachi GDR8081N, which
| according to Dell Support can write to CDs. I have been trying to write to a
| CD-RW without success. I can read from it OK, though.
| I'm not sure if I have the Adaptec driver set - all it says when I look for
| driver details is Microsoft Driver V5.0.2183.1.
| I've been through the support suggestions on the Roxio website, but not
| found anything applicable.
| I really appreciate the advice - please keep sending it.
