can't view my movie

Hi,
I'm trying to watch a movie downloaded from the internet and can't open it.
It ends with .avi.I can't seem to open it with Windows media player.
It just says the program used to compress the folder is unknown.
Any ideas.

Yep, go grab a codec pack & install it.
Or better still go grab VLC media player.
