Dell reports a security patch for XP corrupted my XP Home Edition operating system so that DVD's, when viewed, display choppy/scrambled data. They could not say which security patch or what file(s) were corrupted. This disavow any ownership of the issue, blame Microsoft, etc. This is from their 'qualified' techs around the globe

What's been done so far: uninstalled/reinstalled Dell DVD software; since problem also occurs with Windows Media Player -upgraded to version 9 - still happens; checked all related drivers - all are current; ActiveX all current and more

Has anyone encountered something like this? problem was? solution is?

If Dell says it is an issue, there is a link somewhere on Dells web
site.
If it is not on Dells web site, it is merely an ignorant tech who does
not know how to do his job and simply blames others to make his call
time shorter..

Check Dells website as well as the DVD manufacturers website.
Make sure all drivers are current with the latest version of Direct X.

Try this link:
