can't use windows update

I'm using XP. For some reason I can connect to bascially
every website but cannot get to the sections on
microsoft's website "windows update" to find any needed
patches. It did allow me to install security update #1
and now I can't get to it no matter what link I try.

it's not the network because I can get to it from my
other computer on the same connection here. It's strange
b/c I can reach anywhere else.

Any suggestions?

I am having the same problem but it's not with the
Microsoft site. I am trying to access my school online,
but when I log in, the page says it's "done" but there is
a blank screen. Could this be related to the same problem?
I am operating Windows XP Home Edition and experienced
this problem after attempting (and failing) to install the
Office suite.

Help!
