Hi, I recently installed Vista and despite some problems it's been ok. I've
encountered another problem however, and my DVD drive will not be installed.
Here are some images that describe my problem better:

As you can see, it appears NOTHING will work! I dont think I have the CD,
and even if I did, how would it work? I can't run it anyway. I've downloaded
the same driver from the NEC site and this comes up:

"Target NEC ND-4551A is not found correctly"

The model is NEC DVD RW ND-4551A as seen in this picture:

I'm completely frustrated and the drive used to work perfectly in XP.
Help would be very much appreciated!
Thanks

MarcoR,

This problem is likely caused by some Vista incompatibility in your burner
program, such as Roxio or Nero. Follow the instructions to fix it contained
in the below Microsoft KB article for removing the Upper and Lower Filters in
registry which likely are causing the issue. The article also applies to
the current version of Vista:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;320553

The prescribed procedure has worked for a lot of people. Let us know
whether it works for you.

MarcoR,

In the event that the burner you are using is causing a problem, here are
links to three burners that people who have used them say work well with
Vista:

http://www.imgburn.com/

http://www.deepburner.com/

http://www.ashampoo.com/frontend/homepage/php/index.php?session_langid=2

I obtained those references from another forum. I've not used any of them.
Each one has a free version and a more fully featured pay version. Just for
your information and consideration. Some people say that the most recent
updates for Roxio and for Nero have fixed some (all?) Vista incompatility
issues, but I have no way of knowing.

Wow, this has worked perfectly. It's working amazingly already.
Thanks so much for the prompt and detailed response!

Peace

I had aboutish similar problem with the DVD-rw. Vista couldn't find it at
all. The solution was different. I had to use full recovery. So I had to
install all my programs again.. Problem reports said it was caused by newst
Nvidia screen driver. Now I can' update the driver but DVD-rw works nicely
....
but it says... when I burn my photos safe ... that it finishes the CD that
It can't be used in any other computer !

WHY in erth I should make a photo CD not useable in my other computer???
It is supposed to be useable in other computer in the case that Vista won't
work!

I'm having a sort of similar problem as well. I have a new computer with
Vista already installed. I am trying to get my sons school photos from the cd
I bought on to the computer but it keeps asking me to insert disk. It also
wont let me install a supposedly vista compatible game either - same problem,
asking me to insert cd. Its starting to drive me crazy! I have asked othr
people who say look for windows explorer, but I cant find that either!!! Wish
I had stuck to XP!!!
