Can't upgrade to IE6

when trying to upgrade to IE6 .. the installation starts and then it tells me
that a previous installion is pending and it needs a restart.. when doing so
, nothing changes
Also when i view Installion History .. it says Succeddful instalion , but
Help about still says version 5.5
