When trying to update, I receive the error message "no
network connection detected".

I've already checked without firewall and antivirus but
still not working. Perhaps my router's firewall. Do I
have to open any other port besides 80???

It does some stuff but I don't think it has to do with me
not being able to update the software because one of the
computers attached to the router works fine, but the
other doesn't.

Are you certain there's no other software firewall on the machine with the
problem?

Is IE or OE set to work offline?

Can you reach the web with IE?

This error message can arise with any break in communications between the
given client and the definition servers--but in your case it sounds as
though it is local to this particular machine.

I totally agree, it sounds as though it is local to this
particular machine. I'm sure there is no other firewall.
I'm also able to surf the net, chat, and make calls using
VoIP.

The only think I can think of is the particular
configuration of IE on this computer. Should I restore IE
to its default configuration?

Seems well worth trying. Unfortunately, I know of no easy way to create a
custom configuration of IE, and return to the defaults, and then recover
that custom configuration. Ya got to write it all down, as far as I know.
