don't know whats going on' I have window XP-home edition
and DSL on my Ethernet connection. but I am online and
still can't get update. does not detect my online
connection. need help

Take a look at this http://support.microsoft.com/kb/892350 (info provided
by Andre Da Costa) and check whether Internet Explorer and Outlook Express
are set to work on-line (not off-line).
