I have 3 computers at home. 2 out of the 3 have been able
to download the new 5687 version, but the third one, my
Toshiba Laptop, doesn't seem to even find it we doing the
check for update option. Yesterday it once tried to
download it, but froze in the middle of the operation.
Now it doesn't find it and it displays that it's up-to
date even if it still has the 5685 installed. What should
I do?

That is interesting. I have automatic updates set, and
never saw a 5686... I went from 5685 to 5687. Is this
expected behavior?

Here's a kb article, not yet updated for 5687, which gives ways to determine
for certain which set of definitions are in place.
There is a bug in the display of the definition versions, both in terms of
the notification after an auto-update, and in Help, about.

I'm not sure these are helpful, but here are a couple of tips:

1) for some, auto-update works, even when manual updates do not.
2) If you receive an update, and the version noted seems incorrect, doing a
manual update which will do nothing except state that you are current, may,
in fact, correct the version number given in Help, about.
