Can't update distribution list

I am running 2000 server sp4, exchange 2000 sp3, xp pro
sp1, outlook 2003.

I updated an email address in a distribution list that is
in a public folder (I am the owner). The list shows the
new, updated email address but when I send to the list
the email address I updated get bounced back with a NDR
showing the old email address. The other curious thing is
that when I click the Update Now button it used to grey
out indicating there were no more updates, now the Update
Now button stays available as if the updates are not
taking affect. Any help is appreciated.

FWIW, I've never seen the "Update Now" button do anything useful.
I would love to know if anyone else has.
I rather suspect it is a feature in search of a function.
It's one of many reasons most of us don't use DLs for anything important.

Ok, good to know, but any idea why when I send to
(e-mail address removed) it returns a NDR with the old email
address I already updated in the DL? It comes back saying
it couldn't send to (e-mail address removed) when I tried to send
to (e-mail address removed)?

Remove individual addresses from the autocompletion cache by highlighting
the entry when presented in the suggested names list (use your arrow key to
migrate to the entry) and then hitting your Delete key before you tab out of
the field. To clear the entire cache, follow the instructions here:

If you are in fact using Outlook 2003 and you are in fact using
autocompletion, then you have an NK2 file.
Did you search for it, including hidden files?

Well, I have it in a DL, but I have been testing it
laetley by just typing it in manually into the To field
of a new email. It does autocomplete the address
(suggests it to me). I deleted the *.NK2 file so it
wouldn't suggest anything but it still bounces back with
the wrong email address. I suppose it could be
autoresolution problem but I thought that is why I
cleared the cache (is this separate from autocompletion
cache?) How can I turn off autoresolution?

But autoresolution will use the addresses in your Contacts, not the cache
(it only uses the cache to store manual resolutions you've told it to
remember).
You probably don't really want to turn off autoresolution. Just create a new
Contact Record for this recipient and delete any old records that might have
an errant address. Addresses stored only in a DL (instead of a Contact
Record) can be particularly troublesome.

Deleted the DL entry and created a new contact item with
the correct address. I got the same result. Could the new
address domain be forwarding the email to the bad
address? Would it bounce back to me if another mail
server were forwarding to a bad address? When I check my

What exactly does the NDR say? If you've cleared your autocompletion cache
completely and recreated the Contact, I can't see anywhere that Outlook
could be pulling a bad address.

wouldn't suggest anything but it still bounces back with
the wrong email address. I suppose it could be
autoresolution problem but I thought that is why I
cleared the cache (is this separate from autocompletion
cache?) How can I turn off autoresolution?
-----Original Message-----
How are you entering the address again? Any chance this
is autoresolution
resolving to the wrong address?

Ya, sorry, I found it, deleted it, restarted Outlook,
tried to send to (e-mail address removed) and it bounced back
saying can't send mail to (e-mail address removed). The wrong
email still. Any other thoughts?

If you are in fact using Outlook 2003 and you are in
fact using
autocompletion, then you have an NK2 file.
Did you search for it, including hidden files?

There is no .nk2 file on the hard drive, I use
exchange
2000, would it be a different procedure for
exchange?
-----Original Message-----
Remove individual addresses from the autocompletion
cache by highlighting
the entry when presented in the suggested names
list
(use your arrow key to
migrate to the entry) and then hitting your Delete
key
before you tab out of
the field. To clear the entire cache, follow the
instructions here:

I deleted (e-mail address removed) from the
autocompletion
list,
don't see how to clear the entire cache?
-----Original Message-----
No. Have you cleared your autocompletion cache?

Ok, good to know, but any idea why when I
send to
(e-mail address removed) it returns a NDR with the old
email
address I already updated in the DL? It comes
back
saying
it couldn't send to (e-mail address removed) when I
tried
to
send
to (e-mail address removed)?
-----Original Message-----
FWIW, I've never seen the "Update Now"
button do
anything useful.
I would love to know if anyone else has.
I rather suspect it is a feature in search
of a
function.
It's one of many reasons most of us don't use
DLs
for
anything important.

I am running 2000 server sp4, exchange 2000
sp3,
xp
pro
sp1, outlook 2003.

I updated an email address in a
distribution
list
that
is
in a public folder (I am the owner). The
list
shows
the
new, updated email address but when I send
to
the
list
the email address I updated get bounced
back
with a
NDR
showing the old email address. The other
curious
thing
is
that when I click the Update Now button it
used
to
grey
out indicating there were no more updates,
now
the
Update
Now button stays available as if the
updates
are
not
taking affect. Any help is appreciated.
