Can't Uninstall Microsoft Links 2003

My husband installed Microsoft Links 2003 along with the patches. Now I am
unable to uninstall the program for him. Using the Uninstall feature in the
program does nothing. Using the delete programs in the control panel also
does not work. When I click to remove or uninstall, nothing happens. My
husband also cannot find his original discs so I don't have the option of
reinstalling to try to uninstall. If the uninstall is corrupt, is there any
way to get a fresh copy of uninstall.exe? How can I uninstall this program
when nothing works?

Hi Bucky,

Here's how to uninstall a game when using Add-Remove programs fails:

Step A: Start your computer in Safe Mode by holding down the F8 key.

Step B: Reinstall the game to the same folder it was installed to originally,
and then try to uninstall it again using Add-Remove programs. If
you can't, delete it's folder and any save games in My Documents.

Step C: Install and Run Regcleaner and if it finds any stray registry keys for the
game, delete them: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download460.html

Do you have any third-party add-ons installed, like special courses? If so,
try uninstalling those first. They may have modified the information the
uninstall routine is looking for when you enact it. If your husband has
lost the original CDs, how is he playing the game? A CD is needed to launch
it.

Jimmy S., thank you for the information. However, since I don't have the
discs anymore I can't reinstall the program. You don't need the discs to
play the game as the full game was installed to the hard drive. I do think
he had special courses installed, but I have looked for an uninstall for them
both within the games folder and using the add/remove in the control panel.
I can't find any other install.
Any other suggestions to help me?

Thanks Jimmy S. I was finally able to track down his disc and used it get
the uninstall done. However, there are some courses and stragglers left. I
will use your suggestion and see if that helps to get rid of the rest. Thank
you for your help.

Hi Bucky,

You're most welcome..
I'm glad Chris and I were able to help you get this sorted. :-)

No it will play without the CD after you play one time and use CD #1. It
makes it nice as you don't scratch the CD that way. I have had the game from
the first week it came out. I play my father in law three or 4 times a week.
He is in Kentucky and I'm in Texas.

Randy

That's news to me. The security protection has always required CD 1.
Perhaps you've installed a no-CD patch?

Hi Chris H.,

You're correct. :-)
I just tested Links 2003 again, and it requires CD verification to launch.

Absolutely. 8-) Apparently the user has used some third-party "remedy" and
that's what is causing the problems. Since we don't know what that would
change, chasing a solution at this point isn't viable.

nope. I have upgraded my computer many times since the first time I
installed the game and all I do is install the game then the extra courses
and play. No (no CD patch here). My father in law also has the game and he
does it the same way. We like the game because if you use MSN Messenger 6.2
you can play the game through messenger but for some reason 7.0 will not
support it. :(

Yes it does the first time but after that IT DOES NOT! Well... never mind I
know what is correct... It works is all I know.

Randy

Anyway back to his problem, couldn't he use regedit to find everything
pointing to Links 2003 and delete them (I have done this to remove Norton
before) or would that be a bit dangerous for them to try? Just a thought.

Randy

Not to continue this argument, but you, sir, have altered something with
Links 2003, whether you know it or not. Here's a Microsoft Knowledge Base
article which is titled, "Games that require that the original product CD is
in the CD-ROM drive to play":
http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb;en-us;243258

Under the Applies to: section, please note that Links 2003 is listed.

End of thread.
