Hi all

I've just changed my AV program to McAfee (on the grounds that work provides me a free licenced copy so why not :) However, for obvious reasons i want to uninstall my existing copy of AVG.
Tried doing this last night (after mcafee for some weird reason didnt uninstall it....which is what happened last time i swapped between the two) but I keep getting the error message "Autoexec.nt is not a suitable file for running programs in dos or windows. Press close to close this application then bang your head against the wall repeatedly"
Ok..i made the last bit up but.....this is really annoying. It wont uninstall through any route i tried and..of course....when I tried the unthinkable, just deleting the AVG folder, i get an access denied message...presumably because it was still running somewhere (even though i ended the process through task manager).

Any clues??

Why would you think that McAfee would uninstall AVG?
You cannot uninstall AVG if it's running.

Make sure McCrappy is running.

Open Task Manager
Ctrl + Shift + Esc
Processes tab
Highlight: avgcc32.exe
End Process button
Answer YES
Highlight:avgserv.exe

End Process button
Answer YES

Now uninstall AVG using Add or Remove Programs.

Start | Run | Type: appwiz.cpl | OK

See reply to your other post. Please don't multipost - if you need to post
to multiple groups, it's best to crosspost instead, by posting a single
message to a handful of relevant groups (separate the NG names with commas)
so that everyone can follow the thread. Thanks :-)

Add and remove program in the Control panel will remove
it as you would do to remove most things, or reinstall
AVG and use the -Remove Avg section the menu etc.billy
