Can't type while Find Window is open!

I'm using Excel 2000 and when I press the Ctrl+F keys and
bring up the find window, I can't type in the actual
document while it's open. I seem to recall having the
search window open and editing the document in Excel
2002. Was this feature only available in the new version
of excel?
