When I start IE, I can't input anything into the
textboxes...only a pulldown menu of what I have previously
entered has been shown. What is the problem?

Sandi of Microsoft had advised me to visit the following page to solve
the problem :

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q235236

However, my IE still won't allow me to enter text.

I have once tried to uninstall IE and wants to reinstall it again but
fail. Now the version of IE has displayed 'An Error has occured in this
dialog. Error : 96 - Unspecified error'. What can I do now?

Is there more to your error message?

A search on google

http://groups.google.ca/groups?hl=e...+96+-+Unspecified+error%22&btnG=Google+Search

found this error, can you relate to it?

standard web browser but when I try to check which version
of IE i have, I get the message

"an error has occurred in this dialogue
error: 96
unspecified error
ok"

If yes then continue to:
http://www.generation.net/~hleboeuf/ermshtml.htm

If Gator was or is installed it may have installed some parasites.

Easy way to find out.

Try this: Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > Browsing
Uncheck the Enable 3rd party browser extensions

If this clears your problem then find out who the culprit(s) is/are with
these tools.

Let AD-Aware Scan your system for advertising Spyware

p.s Reset the 3rd party browser setting.

No more...seems that the page can't help me. I have executed
regsvr32.exe /i mshtml.dll but there is no effect on the problem. What
should I do then?

Did you do any of this fixing?
