can't type in message box

I can't type inthe message b ox. a small box with an x is there and it won't
let me type a message
 
Version? Does the problem occur when you have opened a new message? Or when
you are replying to a message that you have received? Fill us in with some
particulars, then maybe there can be some more help being offered.
