Can't Type In Browser

I use Internet Explorer 6.0 with Windows 98 SE. I've installed SP1 and the
Windows update, but am still unable to type anywhere in my browser on about
90% of the websites I encounter. (This is the first site in 4 months that
I've been able to type in the browser.) I get a flashing cursor, but when I
type, it won't move. It's not a keyboard problem because I can type in my
notepad and in all other programs I've tried. I have to resort to opening my
browser and opening my notepad, entering all text into the notepad and
cutting and pasting it into my browser to access the internet. This applies
to all areas of webpages and can be particularly tasking when I have to go
back and forth on each page like this:

1) type hyperlink in notepad. Cut. Go to browser. Paste hyperlink.
2) Go to notepad. Type Login ID. Cut. Go to broswer. Paste Login ID.
3) Go to notepad. Type Password. Cut. Go to broswer. Past Password.

And this goes on an on for any attempt whatsoever to interact with the web.

What can I do to resolve this? This has been ongoing for about 4 months
now...through daily reboots and restarts. PLEASE HELP. I have not
encountered any similar issues with this in my research online.

Thanks,

I accidentally hit "yes" about this solving the problem. Those registries
ran successfully, but I'm still having the problem. In addition, I forgot to
mention that I am also unable to close any browser windows once opened. When
I click the "x" at the top right of the browser, it makes a loud "click"
sound and that's all that happens. If I try to "close" from the "File" menu
of the browser, I have the same result. The only way to close a browser
window is to open the task manager and "shut down" the open browser.

I've reinstalled IE6 and the updates and this is still occurring.

When all else fails, HijackThis v1.99.1

It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware.
