can't type a url using only www anymore.

Recently and without any reason, when I type a url into
the address bar without the http I get redirected to dns
error or some search page.

Is there anyway to get it back to just being able to type
in www and the address and windows browser will put the
http there automatically?

Thanks for any help.

Some program (usually spyware\parasite) may have overridden the URL prefix
setting?
Open Regedit to the following locations and verify the below default
entries:
Start | Run (type) "regedit" (no quotes)
