Received new PC at my conservative company, running
Windows 2000 professional & MS Office applications in a
networked environment. Looking around new PC, in Control
Panel, Desktop Theme, I selected Tropical Interlude to get
nice beach photo on wallpaper, only to realize (horrors!)
that these themes comes with cute but unprofessional
sounds and graphics. I have been unable to turn them off,
and there is no "none" choice for desktop themes. Even
when I select a different theme I'm still
getting "tropical" cursor, sounds etc.

Have unchecked all the boxes for sound, mouse pointer
etc., and have gone into Display and changed colors and
walpaper etc back to regular colors etc.

I've rebooted a half dozen times but I'm still getting
beach sounds and tropical cursor graphics. Please help!

Kim, Try turning off the Active Desktop.

To turn off the Active Desktop feature

Open Folder Options in Control Panel.
On the General tab, under Active Desktop, click Use
Windows classic desktop.
Notes

To open a Control Panel item, click Start, point to
Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click the
appropriate icon. Or, in Windows Explorer, click Tools,
and then click Folder Options.
There are a few other ways to turn off the Active Desktop
feature:
Right-click a blank area on the desktop, point to Active
Desktop, and then click Show Web Content to remove the
check mark. A check mark next to the text indicates that
the Active Desktop is enabled.
Double-click Display in Control Panel, click the Web tab,
and then clear the Show Web content on my Active Desktop
check box.

Thanks for this suggestion. Windows Classic desktop is
already checked. Can you think of anything else to try?
