Can't switch between users without getting hung up!

If we have more than one user logged on we can't seem to use the usual
"switch user" command without the whole show grinding to a halt. The only
way to use XP is for just one user to be logged on at a time. It didn't used
to be this way!

Is there a fix please?

Hi there Offwego,

It sounds like you may have a memory issue. As time goes on and you
install/uninstall stuff and use your pc more, the amount of memory you
require may go up.

Right click on the Task Bar and select Task Manager. Go to the performance
tab and check what your PF usage is normally. Report that, as well as how
much system memory you have (Right click my computer> properties and look
under the Computer Info on the general page.) You may need a memory upgrade.

Please let me know!

Best Regards,

William,

Thanks for your reply. I did as you suggested and the figures are:

PF = 593, with just one user.
RAM = 1GB (Was this what you were asking about?)

The PF seems to climbe as I open applications. My son is a "World of
Warcraft" fanatic so often has this running in his user name and I guess this
might be resource hungry?

I seem to have about 15 applications in my system tray. Is this making too
big a demand on memory?

Your thoughts would be welcome!

Yeah, it sounds like you could probably use a memory upgrade, or run msconfig
and take out the third party apps that are starting up from the startup tab.
Just be sure you know what you're removing or else it can hurt the system.

Or you could just take the easy route and throw another gig in the machine.

Remember, the more user instances you run, the more memory you're going to
use.

William,

Sorry it's taken so long to get back! I've had a go at reducing things in
the "notification" area (pf = 592) and found an extra stick of RAM to give me
1.5 Gb in total. Unfortunately, the problem persists!

Any further ideas as to how to solve this one would be great.
