My company supplied me with a Cisco VPN client that I
installed on my home XP Pro machine. It was working fine
but now I can't access the Web or anything else when
connected to the VPN server. I can connect to the server
without any problem but when I open a browser I get a DNS
error. I've tried everything I know but as of yet, no
luck.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

You may want to check the connection settings in your
internet options to make sure everything is configured
properly (e.g proxy server settings)
that may help

Check with the folks that supplied the client.

This condition is controlled by settings in the client, and may well be
intentional for security reasons.

You won't be able to modify these settings unless the work admins have made
that possible.

I don't get your logic in thinking that Microsoft is responsible for this
software not functioning correctly. "Deterministic network enhancer" does
sound familiar, and I think I've been through this issue in previous
threads, but it's been a while, and memory fades!

Have you checked with the vendor to see whether a revised client version
designed to work with XP (let's see---how long has XP been out??) is
available?

The client that I'm using is one distributed by our IP
department and, due to the holidays, I haven't been able
to talk to them about it yet. I will.
Perhaps I'm too quick to blame Microsoft. I'll withhold
judgment on that.
The really frustrating part of all this is that the VPN
worked when I first installed it but then it stopped
working. I've been trying to solve this off and on for a
couple of weeks now and it's getting frustrating.

There are lots of google references if you search on "deterministic network
enhancer", most suggest unchecking it, but I'm unclear where and how you do
that. I did see a page from U Wisc which looks very current, and has
download links for the client, and states that the warnings about DNE being
unsigned are to be expected.

this:

is typical of the university links I found via google--It has an excellent
description of split-tunneling versus full-tunnel--if this setting is under
your control, did you set full instead of split by accident?

When you haven't activated your VPN connection, can you browse the web
without problems?

What is your network connections setup exactly? Any bridges involved?
