Stu

Having a problem with a new computer. The computer has a spanish layout
keyboard, and when I write a simple subtraction formula (ie 2-1) it comes up
with a Value error message. If I add the numbers together it comes up with
the correct answer so the numbers are values and not text. My guess was that
it is something to do withthe keyboard showing another minus sign, but
having tried using the Character Symbol app I was still unable to solve the
problem.
Has anyone else seen and been able to solve a similar problem before, if so
can you please help as I am at a loss as to what to do.

Hi Stu!

With the Num Lock on, have you tried entry using the number pad?

Hi Stu!

Two questions:

Are you using
=2-1

What is appearing in the cell?

Yes I am,
and the #Value! error message appears. If I change that minus sign to a plus
sign it gives me 3, likewise with multiplication and division it works
giving me 2.

Hi Stu!

Is it occuring with numbers other than 1? Just trying to make sure
that it's the - key that is a problem.

Take a look at the Autocorrect listings and see if there's anything
for - (it will be at the top)

But it's pretty mystifying!!

It is very mystifying, I have never seen anything like it before.
It occurs with whatever number is put in the cells, not only 2 & 1, that was
just a simple example.
Thanks for your input though Norman, maybe I just need to reinstall Office
xp again.

Hi Stu!

Sorry for triple posts, I had trouble with sending through my ISP.
Hopefully this is resolved now.

See if the - works with any other program.

You might try the following UDF

Function Test()
Test = 3 - 2
End Function
