I just recently installed Vista Home Basic on my computer.Ok, I do not use
Windows Mail as my default mail--I use messenger and hotmail. Windows Mail
keeps opening on my screen-sometimes 10 or more will try to open at the same
time. It's so frustrating-I close the window and 3 seconds later it opens
again. I've tried restarting ( which works sometimes) but the problem always
comes back. How, oh how do I stop this from happening again? Pleeeeese
help.....thx.

Windows Mail is the default mail program until you tell it otherwise.

Go to "Default Programs", then "set Default Programs"

Click on Windows Mail and see if it says "all" the defaults or not.

I checked default programs and windows mail says it has all defaults. When I
went in to choose defaults for that program ( intending to "deselect" it as
default) it won't give me that option. I made sure nothing was checked in any
of the boxes so I will keep you informed as to what happens. Thanks for your
quick response.

That's ok, that is exactly what I thought you would find.
Windows Mail is the default email client.

You have another option, since you already use Hotmail and Live Messenger,
you can install another desktop email client called "Windows Live Mail" here

http://get.live.com/betas/maildesktop_betas

However, it's is still a *beta* version, not a final version, so you might
or might not have problems using it. But if you decide to give it a try, it
will become the new Default and stop Windows Mail.
