Hi,

I have problems starting my computer. The windows cannot
start. it gives me the following mesage:

"Windows 2000 could not start because the following file
is missing or corrupt:
\WINNT\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEMced start up options for
Windows 2000, press f8.

You can attempt to repair this file by starting windows
2000

Setup using the original Setup floppy disk or CD-ROM.

Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair."

As you can see it says to start the windows and then
repair but I can't start the windows in the first place
and how can I possibly do the repairing job? I tried
putting the windows 2000 CD into my CD drive when I turned
my computer on before the above message apeared but
nothing happened. I don't have a setup floppy but I do
have the windows 2000 installation CD-ROM, but it doesnt
do anything.

I have tried to run the windows in different modes, to see
if it works, but none of them does.

Is there anything that I can do to fix this problem? If
you know how, please send me an email at:

(e-mail address removed)

I really do need help!

Thnx in advance! ;) :)

Hi, M.

This is a fairly common error message. The "ced..." portion on the end is
spurious, an artifact left over from the previous message which is not
overwritten or erased by the actual error message. The ..\system file is a
critical part of your Registry.

Here is a KB article about the problem:
Error Message: Windows Could Not Start Because the Following File Is Missing
or Corrupt: \Winnt\System32\Config\System.ced
