Can't start up computer

when i got my computer i started to download things and then one day when i
turned it on it said "If this is the first time you've seen this message your
first time restart your computer if you've seen this message again follow the
instructions below unplug any newly installed hardwar . run check chkdsk c:
and then restart your computer". Now i can't go on the computer i tryed one
million times

please help me

Imformation: windows 2000 pro sp.5 or 4 use to have internet but removed

Hey Stanley,

Sounds to me like a BSoD (fatal stop error). What is the error code
and its symbolic name (i.e. 0x0000001E, KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED).
This helps alot in diagnosing many stop errors since Microsoft has
documented many in its Knowledge base. For Windows 2000, a boot stop
error usually occurs in the form:

*** STOP: <error code> (<error code for software engr1>,<error code
for software engr2>,<error code for software engr3>,<error code for
software engr4>) <error symbolic name>

If this is the first time you've seen this Stop...etc.

The <error code> and <error symbolic name> would be helpful in
figuring out your issue.

There's a problem with the file system and/or boot record. By the time
you figure it out what exactly it is, and try a few things which ususally
don't work, you can wipe the drive and reload Windows and all your
programs. Been there.

Hey Stanley,

Sorry for the late reply. Hmm the ol' INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE. There
is no easy way around this one and its really hard to say what caused
it (could be a virus, could be a bad sector, plus a bunch of other
stuff in the MS KB database). The only thing I can do without knowing
your computer history is direct you here to see if any of these 14
articles apply to your situation. If not, a reformat and reinstall is
probably inevitable.

Sorry for that Just read the rest and then awnser my qusetion. YOU WOTE: If

To format and reinstall just boot with the Windows 2000 CD and follow
the prompts and on screen instructions. Before you reinstall you might
try to boot with the Windows 2000 CD and launch the Recovery Console
then run these commands:

chkdsk /r

then do: fixboot

You need your Windows 2000 CD to start it and you have to know the
administrator password. Basically, just boot the computer with the cd,
choose to repair the installation and follow the on screen instructions.
