Hi All,

I hope someone can help me out with this problem I've run
into on XP. Since the last Windows Update I can no longer
use or create dialup connections. I have traced this back
to the Remote Access Connection Manager which won't start
due to an Access Denied error (yes, i am logged in as
Administrator)

The symptons are the same as described in Q329441 and
Q330163. The cause is different though - I've had SP1
installed for ages and haven't done a restore or migration
from Home to Professional.

Can anyone help?

Thanks
Stuart

I am having this problem also. As you mentioned Q330163 I
assume you have tried the Telephony, Remote Access
Connection Manager and the Remote Access Auto Connection
Manager services. ( I was going to try these tonight)I
have upgraded from a win2000 pro (fully working system) to
winXP pro (NOT fully working)

I hope we get a solution soon :¬)

Hi Brin,

I've tried everything suggested so far except for
reinstalling SP1. I'll try that tonight - the one thing
I'll learn from this is to keep a CD handy with SP1 on for
these kind of emergencies.

Cheers
Stuart

Hey Stuart,

This service should be set to startup type manual. It gets started as
needed.
Check its Logon tab in services, it should be set to System Account.

Type "sc qc rasman" at a command line and see if your settings match mine
especially the SERVICE_START_NAME.

SERVICE_NAME: rasman
TYPE : 20 WIN32_SHARE_PROCESS
START_TYPE : 3 DEMAND_START
ERROR_CONTROL : 1 NORMAL
BINARY_PATH_NAME : C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe -k netsvcs
LOAD_ORDER_GROUP :
TAG : 0
DISPLAY_NAME : Remote Access Connection Manager
DEPENDENCIES : Tapisrv
SERVICE_START_NAME : LocalSystem

I'm having the same problem. I typed "sc qc rasman" as
was suggested and received the same settings (word for
word).

I cannot access or configure a dial-up account. It will
only let me select a broadband configuration (which I do
not have).
