Unable to get into WinXP Home SP1 safe mode. It loads as far as the log-in
screen after which it reboots. Normal mode appears to be working ok.

Methods to try to rectify used sofar to no avail:

1) Repaired Windows from the Recovery CD
2) Checked for viri and ad/mal-ware

Any further suggestions are welcomed

Thanks

Not much else we can offer. You have a recovery CD, so the XP Repair
Install procedure is out since most OEM recovery CDs don't have the
availability of that option though your setup appears to have some repair
option of its own which didn't resolve the issue.

Another possibility is you have some driver or piece of hardware, possibly
some software is the culprit. You might try to run a compatibility check on
your system. Download the upgrade advisor and run it, the information it
provides may give a clue as to the source of the issue unless your
customized OEM simply doesn't allow for that option even though it may be
listed on the appropriate menu:

Beyond that, I can only suggest contacting your computer's tech support.

Unfortunately I have a UK version of WinXP and are therefore not able to use
the suggested upgrade adviser. It is rather strange to XP runs OK in normal
mode but it throws me out in Safe Mode.

Thanks for your help anyway and let's hope I never ever need to use Safe
Mode as I will truly be snookered.

You're welcome. You can still contact your PC tech support for possible
help with this issue.
