Hello,

Where I work we had a machine finally crash hard after
having had multiple problems for a while now. The basic
machine looks something like this:

PII 333
128 Meg
4 G HD
Win 98se
Office Pro 97

It apparently also has had individual installs of Word 97
and Excel, judging from add/remove programs (this machine
had been around a while). It is used on the company
network primarily to access a repair database and to run
Lotus Notes. It also runs many local functions related to
electronic repair.

After a total crash (wouldn't boot from HD), I reinstalled
Win98SE, after which everything was fine except for an
error whenever Access was launched. (BTW, immediately
after the install I ran a recently updated antivirus app
with no problems detected.) The error is an older "16
bit" type of gray box with the following message...

________________________________
Microsoft Access
A system error has ocurred, or there isn't enough free
memory to start Microsoft Access. Close unneeded programs
and try again.

[OK}

I've tried uninstalling Access and reinstalling through
add/remove programs with the original CD; no luck. I
tried to completely uninstall Office, but with some errors.

Does anybody know where I can go from here? We don't
have staff I.T. personel here so I would like to solve
this issue myself. Everything is perfect except for the
inability to launch Access. I would wipe the machine
clean and restart if not for the hassle of locating all
the individual local apps installed on the machine.

Any smart people out there who may have a solution?

Thanks in advance for the shot at it!

Tom
