I added a Linksys router to connect both of my computers
to the internet. Both comps can use the internet without
any problems, but I haven't been able to set up a network
yet. This Linksys router acts both as a router and a
switch for the network. Here is how my computers are
connected to the internet: The dsl modem is connected to
the router. Then two Ethernet cables go out of the
router to each of the computers. I've run XP's network
wizard, but it doesn't create the right settings. Any
tips????

How did you tell the Wizard that your computers connect to the
Internet?

If you said that they connect through a network hub, the Wizard
enabled XP's Internet Connection Firewall to protect them against
access by other Internet users. That also prevents the computers from
communicating with each other.

In that case, run the Wizard again and tell it that the computers
connect to the Internet through a residential gateway, which is what
the Wizard calls a router.

If that doesn't solve it, try these tips:

1. Disable and un-install all firewall programs (ZoneAlarm, Norton
Internet Security, etc) while troubleshooting.

2. Use only one protocol for File and Printer Sharing. If the network
needs more than one protocol, unbind File and Printer Sharing from all
but one of them. Details here:

3. Make sure that NetBIOS over TCP/IP is enabled on both computers.
