I can't get Outlook 2002/XP to set up and receive or send emails. I have set
it up according to POP rules and Hotmail rules (have multi accounts) and to
no avail, I get errors that I cannot connect to the ISP which in this case is
MSN!!! Then one error says that Outlook no longer lets you accept or send
mail to *free-base* email accounts such as Hotmail. What crap, MSN, Outlook
all owned by same company!! Also Express does same thing. Now this worked
fine up until a few months ago. What changed and how can I use my Outlook to
send receive emails!! This is very frustrating, I have uninstalled, did the
*repair* with CD, etc and nothing I mean nothing works and I get frustrated &
QUIT. But what was the point of buying it if it isn't going to work. Please
help!!!!

So, are you using a paid MSN/Hotmail account or not? If not, as the error
message stated, free Hotmail accounts are no longer supported in Outlook or
Outlook Express. Some of us who already had the free accounts configured are
being allowed to continue using them (for how long, I don't know)...but if
you uninstalled you might have lost the connection for good. See if the
Hotmail website gives you any additional information...http://www.hotmail.com.

so that means I can never use my Outlook or Express huh? Unless I want to pay
MSn for already having internet with my dsl service? Geez, yes I had it
configured already but for some reason my main email from MSN that I have had
forever that has been configured forever stopped working I guess due to this
new restriction?
Oh, well I may have to end up paying the $9.95 just to use my own Outlook
for which I have actually a major problem wtih that ya know? I paid a lot for
my Outlook XP and not to be able to use the main thing I bought it for from a
Microsoft owned site? Sounds just a way to make more money for Mr. Gates to
me,.

Thanks
Pam

Doesn't your ISP provide you with an e-mail account you can use through
Outlook or OE?

Actually, if MSN is your ISP, you might want to ask them if your account is
eligible for use with Outlook...you might have to use the Outlook Connector
(which I don't know much about or I'd give you more information).

Hi,

Yes I got the pop3 info from MSN email help but it still doesn't work, and
nothing I have found on microsoft.com help seems to address it at all. And I
can't afford the $35 charge to find out why, lol/not. I mean I have it
configured just as MSN help tells me & Outlook tells me but I get the error
"""Access to Hotmail and MSN email via Outlook and Outlook Express now
requires a subscription. Please sign up at http://upgrade.msn.com"" .. So see
I am really confused as on options page of MSN email help it gives me the
POP3 info to put in but then I still get this error. It also gives me under
that error another that says my ISP server does not recognize my user name &
password.. so I am about to give up & unfortunately will lose most of my
saved stuff on MSN/hotmail accounts that I normally every 3 months or so
download to Outlook and my hard drive.

Thanks for your responses & Help!!
Pam

In Outlook you can always move your received and sent messages from the
original folders to your own folders in your Personal Folders file, so they
won't be lost...and of course you should still have web access to your MSN
account.

I think what you need to find out is whether you have an MSN premium
account, which would allow you to connect to Outlook using the Outlook
Connector, or if you just have a very basic MSN account which only gives you
the free web-based e-mail. There are other free e-mail systems which will
work with Outlook -- Google's Gmail, for example.
