I dont have the icon for fax in control panel. I went to
syst32 and saw all the files according to a previous post
concerning this. I was not able to get anything to launch,
put an icon in control panel or anything else. When I
clicked on the exe I got a dos prompt that flashed on the
screen for about a second or two. I copyied all the fax
related files from a working machine to the problem
machine. I still show no icon in cnt panel. Any ideas ?
thanks

There is no explicit way of installing Fax on your Windows 2000 computer.
Connect a modem to your computer and run "net start fax" from start | Run |
cmd.exe. This will automatically enable fax on your system. The fax
shortcuts will be available under Start | Programs | Accessories |
Communications | Fax.

Thanks,
Anand

I ran the cmd and got a message that the fax service had
started w/ no errors. However, I still do not see the fax
icon in control panel OR prg/acc/com.
I have set up an HP multi-function, on a 2K box. It works,
(it will fax out) but I would like the user to be able to
fax from desktop.

Open cmd.exe from Start | Run.

If you directly use %windir%\system32\faxsend.exe, can you send a fax from
desktop? The fax queue can be brought up by invoking
%windir%\system32\faxqueue.exe

Thanks,
Anand
