When I try to access the Internet Options from the Tools menu on Explorer6,
I get the following error message: This operation has been cancelled due to
restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system
administrator. Any thoughts on why this is happening and what it might
mean? I never had that problem with IE5.

Victor

Hi Victor,

Remove IE Restrictions & Restore Missing tabs. Download a fix from:
http://mvps.org/sramesh2k/reg/IE_reset_restrictions.reg

The problem may be due to:

1. A spyware. Download Ad-Aware from www.lavasoftusa.com, scan the system
and eliminate the malware products. Re-apply the above fix if necessary.
** Remember to update the pattern file using WebUpdate in Ad-Aware **

( Caused by a malware called CoolWebSearch. Also, Download:
http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/cwshredder.zip )

2. You have enabled SpyBot immunize (protection) feature or any other
similar software. Also, disable the following features:
"Lock IE start page against user changes"
"Lock IE control panel against opening from within IE"

More Information:
Internet Explorer Control Panel Restrictions:

Thanks!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, SpyBot IS enabled. I'm assuming, then, that this is a GOOD thing? Is
SpyBot protecting my system by disabling this option?

Victor

These two options change the respective registry values applicable for IE.
You uncheck these boxes.

"Lock IE start page against user changes"
"Lock IE control panel against opening from within IE"

Still you need to run SpyBot scan every now and then.
