Can't Send "tif" Image via Outlook Fax Service

Here is the setup:
- Compose and message under Outlook 2002
- Attach a image file of type "tif"
- Send the message via "fax transport" (Microsoft's) to a
fax number
- Message immediately returns saying something like "fax
service can't render this type of document".

All other sorts of attachment go just fine as faxes with
no problem. I am thinking the problem has something to do
with Microsoft imaging program that is used when a "tif"
file is selected does not seem to have a "print"
or "printto" function listed.

Need some sort of resolution to this. Let me know.

All fax attachments are rendered by their respective default application
before faxing. Are you sure that by double clicking the tiff file it
properly opens up in Microsoft Imaging program.
If so can you give which details about OS and Microsoft Imaging
application versions

Loganathan, thanks for the reply. Yes I did just check
that when I click directly on a "tif" file it opens the
Microsoft imaging program.

This is running Windows 2000 Professional with Office XP
loaded. The version of Microsoft Imaging that is running
shows as version 1.03.2349.1 on the "help-about" screen.

As I noted below, the Mircosoft Imaging program does not
seem to have a "printto" function...which might be why it
can not render the image.

posts leads me to believe other folks are having this
underlying problem. There seems to be questions that re-
sending faxes does not work correctly which might be
related to not having the image produced as you noted
below.

Russ, thanks for the response. I made the changes you
suggested on definging a "printo" verb for the Microsoft
imaging software. The paths and all must have been
correct since the error message that was then generated
said "...shingvw.dll missing entry ImageView_PrintTo". So
I am not sure exactly why that is. As noted your solution
was based on Windows/XP and we are all running
Windows/2000 Professional. So perhaps there is a
different parameter.

I think this is close to fixing the problem and your
initial analysis was correct in that the image program is
not rendering the fax image to be sent.

We are pretty excited about getting this long standing
issue resolved (printing "tif" files to then be sent via a
hardcopy fax machine seems pretty lame right now!

Yes, it is a different path in Windows 2000, but it will be a while before
I'm on a partition where I can verify it. I've posted it before. Have you
searched in Google?

Russ, it looks like this has fixed the problem. I did a
forward of a inbound fax and instead of the error message
we usually get, it showed the printing taking place and
the outbound fax was generated.

This fixes a problem we have had for over a year! Thanks
so much for your follow-up over these few weeks.

I am not sure how the "printto" function was lost perhaps
the installation of Office XP replaced the Kodak image
viewer with the MicroSoft Office version or something like
that...since this is a parameter we would not be modifying
for any reason.

Thanks again...your help is really appreciated...hopefully
some day we can return the favor!
