"Can't send this e-mail message"

When I preview a report and try to email it via
Send-to Mail Recipient (As Attachment)
I get the error
... can't send this e-mail message.
Before attempting to send an e-mail message from (database),
resolve the problem identified in the previous message,
or configure your computer to send and receive e-mail messages.

This was working on June 3rd, the last time I did this.
The database is Access 2002 running on XP, SP3.

Also, I use Thunderbird and not Outlook.
